Cipollini NK1K Ultegra – quick as a flash and comfortable too
Top speed is in the genes of former sprint world champion and company founder Mario Cipollini: the NK1K bears his DNA, is as fast as an arrow and yet also suitable for long distances. The monocoque carbon frame with a 1-K finish has been aerodynamically optimised, which you can see at first glance from the seat and front down tube, which hugs the tyres tightly like a time trial bike. The aerodynamic seatpost with integrated seatpost clamp as well as completely integrated cabling continues this design language.
At the front the head tube was designed to ensure great steering stiffness and the seat stays have been kept slim, which offers more damping at the rear. The geometry has also been optimised in terms of stack and reach in favour of a more relaxed riding position. This means that even long distances on rough asphalt are easy to endure.
A perfectly tuned set-up
While tradition-conscious Italian brands have often been averse to installing disc brakes on road bikes, Cipollini offers the option of mounting either disc or rim brakes on this frame. This version of the NK1K uses the powerful hydraulic disc brakes from Shimano. The Ultegra BR-R8170 disc brake system allows for optimal modulation and control with SERVO-WAVE technology. This generation is lower maintenance and quieter than ever before. The ST-R8170 brake levers fit in the hand ergonomically and the lever reach can be adjusted individually.
This version of the NK1K is equipped with the complete Ultegra Di2 groupset R8150, which guarantees fast, smooth gear changes thanks to Shimano Shadow+ technology. It’s electronic and, as of recently, largely wireless, which in turn is conducive to the clean design, allowing a wide gear range and customisation via the Shimano E-Tube app and a smartphone. A 52-36 double chainring at the front and a large 12-speed 10-36 cassette at the back make every mountain stage a breeze. All components of the Di2 groupset are compact and aerodynamically designed, thus fitting perfectly with the character of the NK1K frameset.
Fans of structured, watt-oriented training will be pleased with the Ultegra power meter on the crank and the versatile, aerodynamic 40 mm Fulcrum Airbeat 400 DB wheelset round off the overall package. The 28 mm Pirelli tyres will also guarantee you good comfort on rougher roads.
The result of intensive research
Mario Cipollini invests a great deal of time and passion in research and development work to keep coming up with innovative, high-performance frame designs that are also exceptionally aesthetically and emotionally appealing. His team at the company headquarters in Verona includes the best engineers in the industry.
The brand relies on transparent production chains and Italian craftsmanship: the bikes are developed and produced mainly in Italy, including production still done by hand. The carbon lamination takes place in the Cipollini Bike Centre in Bosnia under the supervision of Italian experts. Cipollini tests the materials together with professional teams, which the brand also partially sponsors.
The NK1K is UCI-compliant, but ambitious riders with a love of Italian design and need for speed will find everything they wish for here. It’s a fast, aerodynamic bike with fantastic steering precision, but with great attention paid to comfort too. For all those who prefer a versatile endurance racer to a pure time trial bike.
